About Dr. Alok Sagar Gautam

Dr. Alok Sagar Gautam is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (A Central University), Srinagar, Garhwal, Uttarakhand (India).  Where he joined in July 2013. His research focus is on Atmospheric Aerosols, Climate Change, Cloud Dynamics and Air Quality Monitoring. Dr Alok Sagar Gautam is one of the Prominent, Young Researcher of the University. He has pursued his PhD from “Indian Institute of Tropical Meterology” Pune and has also received the top Junior Associateship from International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Italy.  

Before joining the H.N.B. Garhwal University, Dr. Gautam took part in several expedition/observational campaigns in 28th Indian expedition to the South Pole Antarctica during his stint at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology Pune. It was during these expeditions that he exhibited his commitment, skill and devotion to collect the invaluable and precise data in harsh environments. After these expeditions, he started analysis and interpretation of collected data systematically and reached to sound conclusions. The findings have been published in reputed international journals. In these publications, he reported several new observations for the origin and scavenging processes of ions and aerosols. 

After joining the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar, Uttarakhand in July 2013, Dr. Gautam has been working on few aspects of physical and chemical characteristic of aerosols with Science and Engineering Board and also on projects sponsored by Department of Science and Technology. He has established, India’s Highest Cloud observatory (HCO) at Swami Ram Teerth Campus, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Uttarakhand. Dr Gautam’s work in the area of Cloud Physics/Dynamics has been helpful for making assessment about the weather in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand India. 

His research work has resulted in several very good scientific papers. He has also participated in many scientific conferences/seminars/workshops and has effectively made his mark. He has to his credit many National/International Awards including the prestigious Environmentalist of the year 2019. He is a member in various National Committees, Professional Bodies and Associations.
